Blackwater Eco Tours is a community established river activities company based in the Blackwater River Valley in Villierstown, West Waterford. From their boathouse at Villierstown Quay, they offer a range of activities including, daily guided river tours, self-drive boats, kayaking and canoeing, and woodland walking trails. They also offer refreshments and an outdoor picnic area.

The guided river tour is a 90-minute tour that takes you and your group out on the river at a relaxing and gentle pace upriver. Taking in the history of the river as well as the beautiful scenic vistas and the diverse wildlife, their expert guides will give you a unique experience you won’t forget. These tours operate twice a day from Thursdays to Sundays from May to October.

If you’re looking for a little more excitement, the self-drive boats are a fantastic way to experience the river and have fun at the same time. You get to drive one of the powerboats yourself. There is no need for powerboat experience, as their expert staff will give you an induction prior to departure and they’ll accompany and guide you on the river from our pilot boatYou can travel south as far as Youghal Bridge and north as far as Cappoquin, with loads to see in between. Self-Drive boats are available every day from May to October.

Finally, if you want to experience the river and get some physical exercise, a kayak or canoe is a great way to experience the serene beauty of the river. From their base, you can paddle the calm waters near the quay or take a long journey upriver or down the river with the tide.

After a day of river adventures, you can stay the night in one of their super cosy glamping pods based just a few minutes from the quay, search Blackwater Eco Pods in Where to Stay.
