ROOTS – The Secret Life of an Irish Garden with Éanna Ní Lamhna
As part of ROOTS – Conversations Inspired by Nature, Mount Congreve welcomes renowned environmental expert, broadcaster and author Éanna Ní Lamhna for a fascinating illustrated talk exploring the garden as a habitat for biodiversity.
ROOTS is a new series of Sunday talks at Mount Congreve, bringing together stories, people and ideas inspired by nature. Running across the autumn and winter, the series will explore everything from Irish gardens and biodiversity to historic wallpaper and Waterford’s rich heritage.
For this September conversation, Éanna Ní Lamhna will explore The Secret Life of an Irish Garden, looking at the important role our gardens can play in supporting native wildlife.
What gardeners choose to plant (and how they manage the growth of those plants) can have a significant impact on Irish animal biodiversity, for better or for worse. From the birds and insects that create the familiar sounds of the garden, to the wildlife living quietly among our plants, there is a remarkable amount of biodiversity all around us.
Illustrated with photographs of garden wildlife, Éanna’s talk will reveal more about the species sharing our gardens and how the choices we make can help support nature.
The conversation will be followed by an audience Q&A, with an opportunity to meet Éanna and attend a book signing afterwards. Guests are then invited to explore Mount Congreve Gardens, browse the shop, and enjoy lunch in The Stables Café.
