St Declan’s Way Steering Committee
Walking Ireland’s Ancient Pilgrimage Route
The St Declan’s Way Steering Committee plays a central role in protecting, promoting and developing one of Ireland’s oldest pilgrimage routes. Stretching 115 km from Cashel in Co Tipperary to Ardmore in Co Waterford, St Declan’s Way follows the footsteps of the early Christian saint who travelled this ancient road long before St Patrick.
The Steering Committee brings together local authorities, community groups, historians and tourism partners who work collaboratively to ensure the trail remains a safe, well-maintained and enriching experience for all who walk it. Their work includes:
-
preserving the historical integrity of the route
-
developing waymarking, signage and trail improvements
-
supporting conservation of landscapes and heritage sites
-
coordinating events, guided walks and pilgrimage days
-
promoting the trail as a flagship outdoor experience in the South East
Thanks to their dedication, walkers can explore a route that weaves through breathtaking countryside, monastic ruins, mountain paths and picturesque villages. St Declan’s Way offers a rare chance to step into Ireland’s early Christian story while enjoying the peace and beauty of nature.
Whether you walk a section or complete the entire pilgrim path, the work of the St Declan’s Way Steering Committee ensures that this remarkable journey continues to inspire all who follow it.
