Set on the site of a former FitzGerald castle, Cappoquin House & Gardens is an elegant 18th-century Georgian estate that has been home to the Keane family for nearly 300 years. Nestled in the heart of West Waterford, this historic property offers visitors a peaceful retreat where heritage, nature, and thoughtful stewardship come together.

Gardens & Grounds

The five-acre, south-facing gardens are planted on rich, acidic soil, allowing for a diverse and vibrant collection of herbaceous plants and shrubs. Carefully designed vistas lead visitors through a tranquil landscape that invites slow exploration and quiet reflection. The surrounding estate includes orchards producing a variety of apples, which are used to create locally made apple juice.

Stay, Explore & Unwind

Visitors can enjoy the gardens, explore the grounds, or book a sauna session without the need to stay overnight. For those looking to extend their visit, Cappoquin House offers accommodation in a charming farmhouse as well as cosy cabins, with families warmly welcomed. As this is a working farm with natural features such as streams and livestock, children should be supervised at all times.

The estate also hosts occasional seasonal events, adding to its appeal as a destination to return to throughout the year.

• Gardens: open March to October, 9 am–4 pm. Closed Sundays (except during Heritage Week).
