Dromana House & Gardens
Discover over 800 years of history at Dromana House, one of Ireland’s ancient hidden wonders, with remnants of every age of building from the 13th century to modern times. For centuries, the house has been the seat of one of the principal families of the south of Ireland, the FitzGeralds, Lords of the Decies, later Villiers-Stuart.
Guided Tours
Guided tours offer a stimulating and informative journey through 26 generations of fascinating facts and fables, exploring both Dromana Estate and the surrounding area. Uniquely, tours are led by a member of the family who lives in Dromana House, offering a personal and authentic insight into its rich heritage.
Each tour lasts approximately one hour, with additional time to explore the History Room, refurbished in 2015.
Gardens & Woodland
Set within 30 acres, the gardens and woodland feature over 3.5km of scenic, looped walking paths. A haven for natural regeneration, the grounds provide a peaceful setting for visitors to explore at their own pace.
Along the way, discover two architecturally fascinating historical ruins: The Bastion, an outer fortification and former boat house, and the mystical Rock House, known for its ancient graffiti.
Seasonal Highlights
The gardens offer year-round interest, beginning in spring with the Bluebell and Wild Garlic Festival in April, alongside vibrant displays of rhododendron, magnolia, camellia and azalea.
Summer brings colourful herbaceous borders, while autumn sees hydrangeas, eucryphias and an ever-expanding collection of Japanese maples come into their own with rich seasonal hues.
