The Tradition & Hospitality of the Irish Wake
Step inside Lily Poole’s Parlour at The Reg for The Tradition & Hospitality of the Irish Wake, an immersive 35-minute video and whiskey tasting experience exploring one of Ireland’s most unique cultural traditions.
Narrated by Waterford historian and author Dermot Power, this special experience brings visitors on a journey through the songs, stories, characters, and customs that have shaped the Irish wake for generations. Throughout the experience, visitors will hear from Dermot himself, alongside contributions from Ireland’s Nobel Laureate Seamus Heaney, Ronnie Drew, and The Dubliners, among others. From the significance of “The Parting Glass” to the tradition of sharing a good drop of Irish whiskey, guests will discover how communities came together to honour those who had passed, while celebrating the life they lived.
Set within Lily Poole’s Parlour, a beautifully refurbished 1870s house in the heart of Waterford’s Viking Triangle, the experience offers an insight into the warmth, humour, hospitality, and storytelling at the heart of Irish culture.
Guests will enjoy a flight of three carefully selected Irish whiskeys throughout the experience, while non-drinkers and children can enjoy the video experience with a soft drink or tea/coffee.
