The Curious World of Ireland’s Follies: An Evening with Robert O’Byrne
Step into the fascinating world of Ireland’s follies with acclaimed architectural historian, author and creator of The Irish Aesthete, Robert O’Byrne, at Mount Congreve.
Taking place in the magnificent Drawing Room of Mount Congreve House, this illustrated lecture will explore Ireland’s remarkable follies, from sham castles and ornamental towers to hidden temples and romantic ruins. Guests will discover the extraordinary stories behind some of the country’s most intriguing buildings, while learning how Mount Congreve’s own Chinese Pagoda forms part of this rich architectural tradition.
The setting could not be more fitting. Mount Congreve House’s Drawing Room is home to internationally significant eighteenth-century Chinese wallpapers, providing a beautiful backdrop for an evening celebrating heritage, architecture and design.
The event takes place on 19 th August, and guests are invited to arrive from 7 pm for a drinks reception before the lecture begins. Tickets are €15 and include a glass of wine or elderflower fizz on arrival. All proceeds from the lecture and wine reception will support the conservation and restoration of Mount Congreve’s historic Chinese Pagoda.
