The Book of Lismore: A Presentation by Prof. Pádraig Ó Macháin
Join renowned scholar Prof. Pádraig Ó Macháin of University College Cork for a fascinating evening exploring the history, contents, cultural significance and legacy of The Book of Lismore.
Taking place in the beautiful surroundings of St. Carthage’s Cathedral, Lismore, this special presentation forms part of Munster Fleadh 2026 and will shine a light on one of Ireland’s most celebrated medieval manuscripts. Closely associated with Lismore through its rediscovery within the walls of Lismore Castle in 1814, the manuscript is rich in history, folklore, saints’ lives and heroic tales, and remains one of the great treasures of Irish literary history.
Professor Ó Macháin will explore the manuscript’s remarkable story and enduring significance in what promises to be a captivating evening for anyone interested in Irish culture, history and tradition.
