Tea, Talk & Tunes at St Carthage’s Cathedral

Celebrate National Heritage Week with a day of history, music, wildlife, and community at St Carthage’s Cathedral in Lismore on Saturday, 22nd of August.

Inspired by this year’s Heritage Week theme, Heritage at Risk, Tea, Talk & Tunes invites visitors to discover the importance of protecting the cathedral’s built, cultural and natural heritage for future generations.

Explore one of Ireland’s most significant medieval cathedrals with guided tours led by the Dean, enjoy live performances from local musicians and learn more bout the history of this remarkable landmark and its place within the local community. An official opening will take place at 12 pm with invited guests.

Coinciding with Wild Child Day, the event will also celebrate the wildlife found throughout the cathedral grounds. Families can follow a special heritage and wildlife trail, looking out for birds, beetles, woodlice, mosses, lichens, and other species that make historic churchyards habitats for biodiversity.

The trail encourages children to observe and enjoy nature while leaving it undisturbed: “Draw it, don’t pick it. Look, don’t lift it. Leave no trace.”

Tea and homemade cake will be available throughout the day, with a suggested donation of €5 in support of the Cathedral Restoration Fund.

Tea, Talk & Tunes takes place at St Carthage’s Cathedral, North Mall, Lismore on Saturday, 22nd of August, from 11 am to 4 pm, with the official opening at 12 pm. Admission is free, and the event is suitable for all ages, with families especially welcome.
