A Hauntingly Delicious Adventure: Inside Waterford’s City Scary Taste Tour

A Frightful Feast Through Ireland’s Oldest City

Waterford has always been full of stories  from Viking raids to medieval markets  and this tour brings those tales to life through food. Led by an expert guide Pamela Flanagan , you’ll explore five local hotspots, each offering a signature dish or drink inspired by the season.
It’s not just a walking tour — it’s a full-on sensory experience where every stop reveals a slice of Waterford’s culture, creativity, and culinary talent.

24th & 31st of October

Stop 1: TRADE Coffee — Brewing Up Some Mischief

The tour kicks off at TRADE Coffee, a local gem located on Coffee House Lane — the original site where coffee was first roasted and traded in Ireland. Here, you’ll dive into a tasting session known as cupping, learning about flavour profiles and roast styles, all while sampling a Halloween-inspired “Witches’ Brew.”

Stop 2: Momo Restaurant — Local, Seasonal & Sinfully Good

Next, it’s off to Momo Restaurant, where chef Kamila Bystrzonowska and her team work their magic with locally-sourced produce. Expect creative autumnal flavours — think roasted pumpkin, earthy beetroot, and rich sourdough from one of Waterford’s award-winning bakeries.

Each dish is packed with colour, warmth, and a little bit of spooky flair — making this stop a definite highlight.

Stop 3: No. 9 Restaurant — Comfort Food with a Twist

Tucked away in one of Waterford’s medieval lanes, No. 9 Restaurant serves up hearty, homely flavours that fit the season perfectly. Picture a steaming bowl of seafood chowder topped with roasted pumpkin seeds, paired with Guinness-and-walnut brown bread — the kind of comforting dish that makes you forget the chill in the autumn air.

Stop 4: Phoenix Yard Market — Global Flavours, Ghoulish Names

The vibrant Phoenix Yard Market brings the energy of street food to the heart of the city. Expect Halloween-inspired creations from its eclectic mix of vendors — a “bloody taco,” perhaps, or something equally daring.
It’s a great stop to chat with local traders, soak in the atmosphere, and maybe snap a few photos for your socials (you’ll want to).

Stop 5: The Reg Bar — Blaa and Boo-zy Delights

The final stop takes you to The Reg Bar, set beside the iconic Reginald’s Tower in the historic Viking Triangle. Here, Waterford’s famous blaa — a soft floury roll with Protected Geographical Indication status — gets a Halloween makeover. Expect creative fillings like “Fishy Phantom”, “Nightmare Brisket”, and “Crunching Bones.”
Add a local craft beer or spooky cocktail, and it’s the perfect way to end the tour.
