A Look Back at Tea, Talk & Tunes at St Carthage’s Cathedral

St Carthage’s Cathedral in Lismore recently welcomed local people and visitors for Tea, Talk & Tunes, their first National Heritage Week event of its kind.

The free event offered a relaxed opportunity to experience the Cathedral and learn more about its history, heritage, and place within the local community. Throughout the day, visitors could enjoy live music alongside guided tours of the Cathedral with Dean Paul Draper, with the opportunity to discover more about the historic Cotton Library.

The programme also included a heritage talk by Deirdre Kennefick, while younger visitors could take part in a Children’s Heritage & Wildlife Trail, specially curated by Kathryn Draper.

Tea, homemade cakes and refreshments were served throughout the day, adding to the welcoming atmosphere. Donations were also collected in support of the Cathedral Restoration Fund.

It was wonderful to see people dropping in throughout the day, from those stepping inside St Carthage’s Cathedral for the first time to returning visitors taking the opportunity to explore parts of its heritage they may not have encountered before.

The event was made possible thanks to the musicians, volunteers, and St Carthage’s Cathedral CLG team who generously gave their time, along with support from Apple Blossom Café, Waterford City & County Council, National Heritage Week, local media, tourism partners, and the wider community.
