The Medieval Museum tells the story of life in historic Waterford City and incorporates several preserved medieval structures within its walls, not least the beautiful 13th century Chorister’s Hall.
Medieval Museum – Waterford Treasures
Step back in time at Ireland’s only purpose-built Medieval Museum — and the only building on the island to contain not one, but two original medieval chambers: the 13th-century Choristers’ Hall and the 15th-century Mayor’s Wine Vault.
Located in Waterford’s historical Viking Triangle, explore the treasures of Medieval Ireland, from the remarkable Great Charter Roll — once viewed by Queen Elizabeth II and HM King Charles III and the Queen Consort — to the breathtaking Heaven’s Embroidered Cloths, Waterford’s exquisite 15th-century cloth-of-gold church vestments. These are the only complete set of medieval vestments to survive in Northern Europe, crafted from Florentine silk and embroidered in Bruges.
Don’t miss the story of the Walled City of Waterford, beautifully depicted on the Great Charter Roll of 1373. The iconic three ships sailing on the river still appear on Waterford’s coat of arms today.
Guided tours available — come and uncover the secrets and splendour of medieval Waterford for yourself.
