Description

Following Europe’s mighty western border, reaching from Scandinavia, to South and Western Portugal, the Atlantic Coast Route visits the majestic fjords of Norway, the wild Irish coastline, the rough cliffs of Brittany and the sun-kissed beaches of Portugal, totalling 11,000 km. Along the way you will not only be seduced by bustling port cities and cosy fishing villages, but you will be impressed by dramatic landscapes and have the chance to enjoy the best seafood each country has to offer. Waterford’s gently rolling, coastal roads and Waterford Greenway play host to EuroVelo 1 for just over 130kms. From Youghal Bridge and the border with Co. Cork to the charming fishing village of Passage East, with its car ferry across Waterford Estuary and onwards to Ballyhack in Co. Wexford (cycling from west to east). The Waterford section of EuroVelo 1 takes cyclists through Ardmore, An Rinn and An Sean Phobal (Waterford’s Gaeltacht Area), Dungarvan, Kilmacthomas, Waterford City, Tramore and Dunmore East before reaching Passage East. You will be spoiled for choice for places to stay, eat and explore or simply admire the breathtaking scenery right here in Ireland’s Ancient East.
