Tramore is one of Ireland’s Top Winter Destinations

When most people think of Tramore, they visualise long summer days, sandcastles, amusement parks, 99’s and fish and chips by the sea. The warm glow of the sun and the glistening waves, reminiscent of childhood summer holidays. However, in recent years Tramore has established itself as a must visit destination all year round. The iconic seaside town was recently named among Ireland’s top ten domestic winter travel destinations by Airbnb alongside other desirable locations including Clifden, Co. Galway, Castlebar, Co. Mayo and Spanish Point in Co. Clare.

With so much to do in Tramore we are not surprised. Irish Country Magazine recently announced the internationally renowned Lafcadio Hearn Japanese Gardens as one of the 5 Hidden Gems of Ireland. Lafcadio Hearn Japanese Gardens is a biographical garden dedicated to the life of Patrick Lafcadio Hearn.  The scenic location of the gardens overlooking Tramore Bay attract tens of thousands of international visitors annually, including high profile guests such as Princess Hisako Takamado of Japan who visited the gardens in 2017.

Every element of the garden embraces Lafcadio Hearn’s  journey through life and incorporates the cultures of Ireland, Greece, America and Japan in a unique and exceptional manner. Some of the most magnificent features of the garden include the Japanese Tea House and Tea Garden, the Koi Fish Path and the Stream Garden.

The gardens host events all year round including musical recitals, Japanese lessons, storytelling and possibly the most popular and well known event is the Enchanted Garden Winter Lights event now in its 8th year. These unique Japanese Gardens are lit at night by a sea of twinkling lights, animal sculptures, dramatic tree and foliage lighting all creating a magical winter wonderland. Visitors young and not so young are spellbound as they walk via a one way system through the gardens and are met at every turn by stunning displays. The Victorian Garden brings old world charm to the festival and fuels the imagination of all who visit.

When visiting Tramore you can relax and enjoy a stay at the Four Star Majestic Hotel overlooking Tramore Bay.
