Cólaiste na Rinne/Irish Language School
Over a hundred years ago people with passion and dedication set up Coláiste na Rinne, in the heart of Gaeltacht nanDéise to promote the Irish language, culture and heritage. The College was officially recognised in 1907 as an Irish language summer schooland since then the teaching of Irish has flourished at ColáistenaRinne.
Today the work of the College’s founders is continuing under the direction of a voluntary board of management and the College remains a not for profit, standalone organisation.
Traditionally the College promoted the Irish language through its boarding school primarily. Fifth and sixth class pupils from all around the country and indeed from further afield come to ColáistenaRinne to spend their final year of national school learning and living through the medium of the Irish language.
Now however the College offers a wide range of courses to learners, from all corners of the world and of all ages including summer courses for teenagers, short courses for adults and intensive courses for university students. The team at the College also custom design many other courses for groups who want to come and stay for short periods in Gaeltacht nanDéise. Groups of all sorts, including visiting national and secondary schools, college students, academics, civil servants, clubs and leisure groups are all welcome here to learn Irish and to live on campus at ColáistenaRinne.
The 25 acre campus offers its facilities to other organisations and groups for their own events too, such as conferences, seminars, meetings, interviews and launches. The on-campus facilities include meeting rooms, professional catering facilities and spectacularly appointed dining room, onsite accommodation, comprehensive sporting facilities and extensive grounds with panoramic views.
Academics are welcome here also, to avail of our library facilities and to study its unique collection of manuscripts, books and recordings. The library is home to the largest collection of Déise Irish literature and audio recordings in the world and a rare Irish language copy of Dracula is contained there too.
