Immrama Festival of Travel Writing
Travel the world without leaving Waterford this June as the Immrama Festival of Travel Writing returns to Lismore for four days of inspiring stories, remarkable journeys, and thought-provoking conversations.
Taking place from 11th to 14th June 2026, the festival brings together acclaimed travel writers, adventurers, photographers, journalists, and humanitarians to share their experiences from some of the world’s most remote and fascinating destinations.
This year’s programme opens with writer and adventurer Geraldine Osbourne, whose extraordinary travels have taken her from the Chilean Altiplano to the High Arctic and active volcanoes in Guatemala and Hawaii. Visitors can also hear from Cork-born explorer Paddy Barry as he recounts an unforgettable road journey from Kerry to Mongolia through Central Asia.
On Saturday, award-winning travel writer and West Waterford native Conor Power will discuss his travels and his debut historical novel, Hurling 1810. Later that day, humanitarian and environmental activist Adi Roche reflects on five decades of campaigning and the enduring legacy of the Chornobyl disaster. The evening concludes with former Irish Times journalist Peter Murtagh sharing stories from his epic 44,000-kilometre solo motorcycle journey from Tierra del Fuego to Alaska.
The festival draws to a close on Sunday morning with photographer and author Carsten Krieger, who will present From the Burren to the Peatlands, exploring Ireland’s landscapes, heritage, and natural history through his lens and writing.
Whether you’re an avid traveller, a lover of books, or simply curious about the world beyond your doorstep, Immrama offers a unique opportunity to hear first-hand accounts of adventure, discovery, and history and global experiences in the beautiful surroundings of Lismore.
