Summer in the City is Waterford’s free, summer-long music and arts festival.

The program for 2020. is really fun, with this year set to be bigger than previous ones. Summer in the City takes places across the summer months from June 1 to August 17 with 160 events taking place on four stages across five areas of the city – and it’s all entirely free for all.

This year there are five main areas:
                           Centre Stage in John Roberts’ Square
                           Waterford Viking Triangle
                           The Apple Market
                           ArtBeat and the Churchyard Sessions in Bailey’s New Street 
                           Block Parties in Waterford Cultural Quarter

Stages around the town

  1. Centre Stage, John Roberts Square is the heart of it all. Every Friday and Saturday expect lots of quality music, family fun activities, free face painting and puppet shows. Kicking off the music on Saturdays there will be performances by some of Waterford’s amazing marching bands and concert bands.

  2.  Waterford Viking Triangle - a fantastic program of creative and entertaining events. Highlights include three ‘Big Events’ on June 1, July 5 and August 17 with street performers, artists workshops, music and spoken word events. Some of the highlights happening in the Viking Triangle include Speakers Corner, Crafter’s Corner, Waterford’s Biggest Colouring Book and Battle of the Bands

  3. The Apple Market - this year for the first time, Summer in the City includes The Apple Market with music gigs on selected Saturday evenings from 18:00 to 20:00.

  4. Waterford Cultural Quarter Block Parties - started as a small thing on O’Connell Street, and it grew to a big thing! With street bands, brass and high energy on the stage outside Tully’s Bar there is a big crowd dancing on the streets.

  5. ArtBeat & The Churchyard Sessions, Bailey’s New Street -  every Saturday evening, ArtBeat focuses on emerging original Irish music; in one of the most beautiful settings in Ireland nestled among the historic ruins of French Church. 

Summer in the City bring famous name every year and there is never boring summer weekend in Waterford City thanks to this fun festival!
