Walshes Bakehouse

Bus departs from Waterford city centre and visits Walsh’s Bakehouse, Comeragh Mountain Lamb, Dunhill Food Hub  and Mezze in Tramore before returning to the city.

Hop on a Bus Bia and visit some of the food and drink makers of Waterford. This food trail will bring you to meet the people who make so much local food and drink, from beer to gin, blaas and breads, cheese or ice cream, there’s whole host of makers right here in Waterford.

On this tour you will depart from Waterford and your first stop will be Walsh’s Bakehouse  where you will be welcomed for a tour and history of the Blaa, and learn how the Walsh family’s passion for the blaa continues to this day.  From there you will head for the the open fresh air of the Comeragh Mountains to visit Willie Drohan and learn about  Comeragh Mountain Lamb, a real example of our own Waterford terroir in action.  From the mountains you head the small rural village of Dunhill to the Dunhill Food Hub to meet some of the makers who run their small artisan businesses from there including Irish Gourmet Butter and Pure Food.  From here it’s a quick trip to Mezze Middle East in Tramore for a light lunch of their amazing street food.

The Bus Bia will return you to your original start point in Waterford where you will be free to go and enjoy the rest of your day.

Continue the evening with the Waterford Way Tapas trail – combo tickets for both events are available for the reduced rate of €90.

The Bus Bia runs every Wednesday throughout the autumn, departing from Waterford and Dungarvan on alternate weeks with different producers included in each tour.

Inspired by our food and drink makers throughout Ireland, this event is part of the invitation to Taste the Island, an initiative hosted to showcase the best of local and seasonal food throughout the Island of Ireland.  See discoverireland.ie for more details and more events as part of this programme.
