2026 GAA World Games
Waterford will welcome teams from across the globe this July as the 2026 GAA World Games come to the city and county for a five-day celebration of Gaelic games, culture, and community.
The Biggest World Games Yet
Taking place from July 13th-17th, the triennial event is set to be the biggest World Games yet, with more than 110 teams travelling to Waterford from across Europe, Britain, North America, South America, Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and Australasia.
There are now more than 560 GAA clubs in existence outside of Ireland, reflecting the remarkable global growth of Gaelic games. This worldwide reach will be on full display in Waterford during the 2026 GAA World Games.
Hosted across the SETU Waterford campus and culminating with Finals Day at Walsh Park, the event will feature Football, Hurling, Camogie, Handball, and GAA Rounders competitions, with over 1,500 players taking part.
Opening Parade & City Celebrations
The festivities begin on Monday, July 13th, with a vibrant opening parade through Waterford City, travelling from Waterside car park, through the Apple Market and into John Roberts Square, where an opening ceremony featuring live music and entertainment will take place.
Throughout the week, visitors can soak up the festival atmosphere, enjoy family-friendly games and events, and celebrate the global growth of Gaelic games. Cultural exhibitions, networking events, and community activities will also take place across the city.
On Tuesday evening, participating teams will link up with local GAA clubs across Waterford, creating opportunities for cultural exchange, friendship, and long-lasting international connections through Gaelic games.
Business, Culture & Global Networking
A special business forum will be held on Thursday, 16th July, at Waterford City Council Building, bringing together leaders from sport, business, education, and the global Irish community to explore international connections through Gaelic games. Featuring addresses from GAA President Jarlath Burns, senior political and ambassadorial figures, and a panel discussion, the forum will highlight the role of Gaelic games in promoting inclusion, grassroots sport, and connections between enterprise, universities, and communities worldwide. The event is expected to welcome more than 200 delegates.
The event concludes with Finals Day at Walsh Park on Friday, 17th July, followed by a closing celebration in the Apple Market from 6 pm – 10 pm.
